Save the Children donates COVID-19 PPEs in Gaza

Friday 23 October 2020

As part of its efforts to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, Save the Children delivered a range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Gaza Provincial Health Directorate yesterday, 22 October. The support consists of 7870 items, including resistant gloves, examination gloves, surgical gloves, caps for nurses, protective gowns, face masks and boots.

This is a gesture that has been seen repeatedly throughout the country on the provinces where Save the Children is operating (Maputo, Gaza, Sofala, Manica, Zambézia, Tete, Nampula and Cabo Delgado), thanks to the Sponsorship program, which supported the acquisition of the equipment, valued at more than $ 91,000.

Américo Boaze, Save the Children’s Provincial Program Manager in Gaza reiterated, at the time of delivery of the equipment, that the Government of Mozambique is a strategic partner of the organization and that Save the Children will continue, within its limits, to provide the necessary support, not only in equipment, but also in the design and implementation of strategies that can minimize the effects of the pandemic on populations, especially children.

The Maciene COVID-19 Treatment Center will be the main beneficiary of the donated equipment.

The province of Gaza has currently 37 active cases of COVID-19, but cumulatively has 389 cases, with two deaths. The Ministry of Health notes that, like Sofala and Manica, Gaza is one of the provinces that receives the most cases notified and transferred from other provinces.
